By far the best book written on the topic of vitamin D is Dr. Michael Holick’s The Vitamin D Solution. Dr. Holick has been the leader in the field of vitamin D research for half a century. The Vitamin D Solutionis a very well-written, enjoyable read and impeccably researched. If you’re only going to read one book on the subject this is the one.
Also by Dr. Michael Holick,The UVAdvantageis very similar to Dr. Holick’s The Vitamin D Solution. Same great, easy-to-read style and deep research, but this one focuses more specifically on the benefits of UV light, in addition to vitamin D.
Multiple Sclerosis and (lots of) Vitamin D(2016) by Ana Claudia Domene details her experience over the last decade of successfully treating her aggressive multiple sclerosis with high-dose vitamin D therapy under the supervision of Dr. Cicero Coimbra and completely putting the MS into remission. The book also contains nine other case studies from some of Dr. Coimbra’s other multiple sclerosis patients who have been able to put their MS into remission with high-dose vitamin D therapy and even reverse their neurological damage from MS in two cases.
The Miraculous Results of Extremely High Dose of the Sunshine Hormone Vitamin D3 (2013) by Jeff T Bowles details his one year experiment of taking very large daily doses of vitamin D ranging from 25,000 IU to 100,000 IU daily with no negative side effects. The book also includes 26 testimonials, mostly from the book’s Amazon reviews, from other people who have had success with high-dose vitamin D therapy for treating chronic pain, depression, chron’s disease, lupus, psoriasis, atrial fibriliation, multiple sclerosis, plantar fasciitis, acne, asthma, obesity, sleep problems, joint pain, autism, cysts, and infertility.
Athlete’s Edge: Faster, Quicker, Stronger with Vitamin D (2011) by Dr. John Cannell is a special gem focusing exclusively on Vitamin D’s effect on physical and athletic performance exploring the research on vitamin D’s benefits for cardiovascular health, muscular strength, speed, endurance, and much more. The book also provides a fascinating historical account of how UV therapy was discovered and used by Russian athletes during their Olympic dominance.
The Vitamin D Cure (2008)by medical doctor James Dowd contains nine case studies detailing the results of his patients’ successes with vitamin D therapy for chronic pain, sleep problems, arthritis, joint inflammation, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, gout, and depression. One of the patients who was obese also lost a significant amount of weight by improving his vitamin D levels.
Written by the world’s foremost expert on Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), Dr. Normal Rosenthal’s Winter Blues focuses exclusively on the importance of bright light exposure for our health (you know… like SUNSHINE). Aside from the vitamin D benefit of sunshine, our health is also highly dependent on our eyes being exposed to bright light. When this does not happen many serious health problems begin developing. A highly fascinating read and the ultimate resource on this particular topic.
The Healing Sun by Richard Hobday is a unique, special gem of a book. Rather than being just a dense medical and science book, The Healing Sun dives deep into the history of heliotherapy and sun health going back to how sun therapy was used and depicted in Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Ancient Egypt, as field medicine during World War 1, the early 20th century rise of heliotherapy, and the horrible mistake in modern medicine that caused heliotherapy to be abandoned.
Autism Causes, Preventetion, and Treatment: Vitamin D Deficiency and the Explosive Rise of Autism Spectrum Disorder by Dr. John Cannell provides a groundbreaking overview of recent research discovering the link between vitamin D deficiency and autism. The book provides many studies of autists and their parents successfully using vitamin D therapy to reduce severity and, in some cases, achieve a perfectly normal life.
